Mastery Before Moving On
Learners progress at their own pace, building deep understanding instead of simply moving on when the calendar says it's time. Personalized learning tools support mastery in reading, writing, and math while helping learners take ownership of their goals.
Learning Through Real Work
Rather than completing disconnected assignments, learners apply what they're learning through hands-on projects, entrepreneurship, design challenges, and meaningful work that connects learning to the real world.
Questions Over Lectures
Guides ask thoughtful questions instead of giving all the answers. Through daily Socratic discussions, learners practice thinking critically, communicating clearly, considering different perspectives, and learning from one another.
Responsibility Drives Growth
Freedom and responsibility grow together. Learners set goals, manage their time, give and receive feedback, and make meaningful decisions about their learning within a community built on trust and accountability.
Character Is Practiced Every Day
Confidence, leadership, resilience, and integrity aren't taught in isolation. They're developed through everyday experiences that challenge learners to contribute, persevere, and become people others can count on.

Every day, learners strengthen their minds, apply their learning in meaningful ways, and grow into capable young people. At Acton, we describe that journey as learning to learn, learning to do, and learning to be.
Learn to Learn
Learning begins with ownership. Learners set goals, manage their time, and work toward mastery at their own pace. Through daily Socratic discussions, they ask thoughtful questions, think critically, reflect on their progress, and develop the habits of lifelong learners.
Learn to Do
Real understanding comes from doing. Every day, learners tackle hands-on projects, collaborate with peers, solve meaningful problems, and present their work to authentic audiences. Through Quests, entrepreneurship, and creative challenges, they discover that learning is something they do—not something that's done to them.
Learn to Be
Character is built through daily choices. Learners practice leadership, give and receive feedback, resolve conflict, honor commitments, and contribute to a community that depends on them. Over time, they grow in confidence, responsibility, resilience, and integrity.
How We Know Learners Are Growing
Growth should never be a mystery. Learners regularly demonstrate their progress through academic mastery, real-world learning, character development, and Exhibitions of Learning.
Academic Mastery
Learners work toward mastery in reading, writing, and math through personalized badge plans. They set goals, track their progress, and demonstrate understanding before moving on.
Real-World Learning
Quests, Civilization, Genre, entrepreneurship, and collaborative projects challenge learners to apply their knowledge, solve meaningful problems, and create work they're proud to share.
Character & Leadership
Character is built through everyday experiences. As learners lead, collaborate, persevere through challenges, and contribute to their community, they develop greater confidence, responsibility, resilience, and self-awareness. Regular reflection and peer feedback help them continue growing over time.
Exhibitions of Learning
Every 3–6 weeks, families are invited to experience learning firsthand. Learners present their work, explain their thinking, demonstrate their growth, and reflect on the challenges they've overcome. Parents don't just hear about their child's growth - they experience it firsthand.
Learning in Action
Learning becomes more meaningful when it has a real purpose. Through experiences like the Children's Business Fair, learners apply what they've learned, solve real problems, serve real customers, and discover what they're capable of. It's one example of how learning connects to the real world.
