Spring Exhibition Day is just around the corner, and we could not be more excited about what our learners have been creating. This semester’s quests have pushed every studio to new heights, and the projects you will see on Exhibition Day represent months of hard work, creative problem-solving, and genuine passion.
Here is a preview of what each studio has been working on.
Spark Studio: “Our Neighborhood”
Our youngest learners have spent the past eight weeks exploring the question: “What makes a neighborhood a community?” Their quest combined geography, math, art, and social studies into a single ambitious project — building a scale model of an ideal neighborhood.
Each squad designed different zones: residential areas, parks, shops, and community spaces. They surveyed real neighborhoods, interviewed local business owners (with guide supervision), and used their math skills to calculate proportions for their model buildings. The final product is a stunning tabletop city that reflects their vision of what a community should look like.
Visitors to Exhibition Day will be able to tour the model neighborhood and hear each squad explain their design choices. Prepare to be impressed by the thoughtfulness these young learners bring to questions about public spaces, accessibility, and what it means to be a good neighbor.
Discovery Studio: “The Entrepreneur’s Toolkit”
The Discovery Studio tackled entrepreneurship this semester with a quest that challenged each learner to identify a real problem in their community and design a product or service to solve it. They conducted market research, built prototypes, developed pricing strategies, and created marketing materials — all from scratch.
The results are remarkable. One team designed a reusable water bottle with a built-in filter, targeted at hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Another created a tutoring matching service that connects high school students with younger learners in their neighborhood. A third developed a line of organic dog treats, complete with branded packaging and a business plan projecting their first year of sales.
On Exhibition Day, each team will run a “pitch booth” where they present their business to visitors. Families and community members will act as potential investors, asking questions and providing feedback. Some of these businesses may even continue beyond the quest — several learners have expressed interest in actually launching their products.
Adventure Studio: “Stories That Matter”
Our Adventure learners dove deep into documentary filmmaking this semester, exploring the question: “Whose stories deserve to be told?” Each squad identified an untold story in our community and produced a short documentary film from concept to final cut.
The films cover topics ranging from a retired teacher who has been mentoring at-risk youth for thirty years, to the history of a local mural that most people walk past without noticing, to the daily life of a family that recently immigrated to our city. Learners conducted interviews, operated cameras, edited footage, and wrote narration — developing technical skills alongside empathy and journalistic ethics.
The documentary screening on Exhibition Day will be a highlight of the event. Each film runs between eight and twelve minutes, and learners will lead a question-and-answer session after the screening. Tissues may be required.
What Exhibition Day Means
Exhibition Day is more than a showcase. It is the culmination of the hero’s journey our learners have been on all semester. They set ambitious goals, struggled through challenges, and emerged with something real to show for their effort. Standing in front of an audience and presenting that work — answering tough questions, accepting feedback, and taking pride in genuine accomplishment — is a transformative experience.

No registration is required — just bring your curiosity and prepare to be inspired by what children can accomplish when they are trusted to lead their own learning.
