What is Creator's House all about?

Question #1

Get Inspired

A picture is worth a thousand words, and a video hopefully a trillion.  Here are some videos that inspire us, describe us and provide a glimpse of our community that we are building.  We hope you enjoy these as much as we do.

Philosophical Foundation

Our Mission

We believe that education is preparation for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. And for today’s students, what lies ahead is a future that is drastically different than the world we live in now. Students today will be responsible for creating that future, and to be prepared for that task, how and what they learn must transform to meet those challenges.

Creator’s House exists for that reason.  To help students (at Creator’s House, we call them creators) find their calling and prepare them to thrive in a rapidly changing world. We do this by challenging them to take ownership in their learning and to put it into practice by solving complex real-world problems using critical thinking, creation, collaboration, and innovation.

Our Promises

Through Socratic guiding and experiential learning, each member of our community will:

  • Begin a Hero’s Journey
  • Learn to be a curious, independent, lifelong learner.
  • Develop a deep respect for economic, political, personal and religious freedoms.
  • Cherish the arts, wonders of the physical world and mysteries of life on Earth.
  • Discover his or her most precious gifts and learn to use them to solve difficult problems.

Our Beliefs

  • We believe that every child has a gift that can change the world in a profound way.
  • We believe in a closely-connected family of lifelong learners.
  • We believe in learning by knowing, learning by doing and learning by being.
  • We believe in economic, religious, personal and political freedom.

The School Universe: Where Creator's House Fits In

There are many different types of schools, each with its own advantages and challenges.  Below is a simplified framework for understanding the broad categories of schools that exist currently. This framework is by no means comprehensive and the options you have available to you may vary depending on your geographical location. Think of this as a starting point as you begin to understand and navigate your educational options.

Our Studios

Studios are a blend of the old and the new – a return to the community, one room school houses that built America – with the best of modern technology and 21st century organizational design.

Creator’s House is currently accepting learners for our Spark Studio (ages 5-7) and for our Explorer Studios (ages 7-12). Year-by-year we will grow with the age of our heroes and are targeting a Makers Studio (ages 12-15) in Fall 2025.

Studio design, tools used, schedules for the younger Spark Studio vs. the older learners in the Explorer Studio is very different.  Select the corresponding tab below for more details.

Spark Studio

Spark Studio focuses on whole child development – cognitive, physical, emotional, and social – with an emphasis on exploring and discovering natural interests. In the morning we have a Montessori environment, and in the afternoon we incorporate the best of Reggio, Waldorf, STEAM and practical real life learning in a hands on adventure program. Creators in Spark Studio are introduced to the goal setting and independent learning skills needed to thrive in future studios.  See an example of our daily schedule: A day in the life of a Spark Creator.

Our Core Processes

Hero's Journey

Everybody is born to change the world, however that journey, the Hero’s Journey is difficult. We work with our creators to prepare them for the path that lay ahead as they find their calling and change the world.

SMART Goals

Creators are introduced to the concept of Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound goals. This will prepare them for future success in the older studios and will guide them on their hero’s journey.

Studio Contracts

The creators and parents develop contracts, and once acceptable, everybody signs them. This essentially becomes the constitution that everyone is held to. When a contract is broken, processes are developed to correct the situation.

Studio Leadership & Maintenance

Each day the creators are given individual and team oriented leadership and maintenance tasks within the studio. Doing this builds leadership skills and transfers ownership of the studio to the creators. Producing a sense of community and pride in their studio.

ES

Our Explorer Studio engages heroes in Projects with Purpose and Mastery based core skills – computer science, reading, writing, and math – using the top proven and challenging tech-based learning tools. Quests are introduced as a signature experience in the learning design of our Explorer Studio. Each Quest runs 5-7 weeks and focuses on real-world hands-on projects, end with a learner-driven exhibition to our families and the broader community. Civilization Simulations are also introduced in the Explorer Studio focusing on complex interdisciplinary problems, ethical dilemmas, and simulations. Quests and Civilization Simulations will require deep critical thinking, heavy collaboration, and unique creative solutions. See an example of our daily schedule: A day in the life of an Explorer Studio Creator.

Enrollment & Tuition

Alternative Schedule

Studies show that long summer breaks cause a huge dip in learning retention so we operate on an 11 month calendar with frequent breaks throughout the year. The school calendar is based on a series of 5-week to 7-week project sprints called “Quests”, each with a theme – like Rockets, Robotics, Medical Biology, or Detective Chemistry  – followed by 1 to 2 weeks off to refuel and for holidays. Our flexible program allows families to travel together throughout the year, without sacrificing any learning.

Tuition

Tuition for the 2023-24 school year is $16,500 payable in eleven monthly installments of $1,500.

There is a one-time $1,500 supply fee that is due upon acceptance.
